Rob Kardashian and Blac Chyna Land Their Own E! Reality Series
E! is expanding their powerhouse Kardashian franchise with a reality show for Rob Kardashian and Blac Chyna.
The news of the series — titled “Rob & Chyna” — comes shortly after the newly engaged couple announced that they are expecting. The news of their pregnancy created a tabloid frenzy, much like most of the news in the famous family’s lives.
“Rob & Chyna” will consist of six hour long episodes, giving in inside look into the “whirlwind romance” of the pair, as they prepare for the birth of their first child.
E! has also greenlit an additional special, set to air after the six-episode season, which will celebrate the birth of their baby — dubbed the “newest Kardashian” by E!
“Very few love stories have created as much pop culture buzz as Rob and Chyna’s, and we are thrilled to see Rob in such a happy place,” said Jeff Olde, EVP of original programming and dvelopment at E! “We are excited to share the next chapter in their relationship.”
“Rob & Chyna” is the latest project in E!’s Kardashian universe. The flagship “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” debuted in 2007, and is currently in the midst of its twelfth season. The franchise includes multiple spinoffs, including “Kourtney and Kim Take New York,” “Kourtney and Kim Take Miami” and “Kourtney and Khloé Take The Hamptons.” The Rob Kardashian-Blac Chyna series is not the first couple-centric show on the NBCUniversal cabler — it follows “Khloé & Lamar,” which centered around the youngest Kardashian sister and her ex Lamar Odom. E! is also home to Caitlyn Jenner’s “I Am Cait,” though the docuseries is part of deal separate from the Kardashian pact, helmed by matriarch Kris Jenner.
In early 2015, the “first family of reality TV” renewed their contract with E!, inking a deal for at least another three years, which was rumored to be valued at $100 million, though the network shut down that figure, calling it “grossly inaccurate.” Variety learned that the pact was actually worth closer to $20 million. The Kardashian programming is E!’s most expensive content, but well worth the chunk of change when it comes to ratings and repeating power.
“Rob & Chyna” hails from Ryan Seacrest Productions and Bunim/Murray Productions, the companies behind the other Kardashian shows. Ryan Seacrest, Gil Goldschein, Jeff Jenkins, Farnaz Farjam, Ailee O’Neill and Kris Jenner are exec producers. Rob Kardashian and Chyna are co-exec producers.
“Rob & Chyna” will premiere later this year.
