I wanted to dive into this feature recollecting after a great trip from Austin, TX, while attending SXSW 2017. One of the top highlights of my trip had to be attending the ASCAP Urban Showcase, & meeting Interscope singer-songwriter, Candice Pillay . Candice is one of my favorite creatives hailing from Pietermaritzburg, South Africa but currently located in Los Angeles, California.
Candice received a co-sign by legendary producer Dr.Dre, due to her vocals & songwriting being credited on his, “Compton”, album from records like “Medicine Man” ft. Eminem, “White Lightening”, &”Genocide” ft. Marsha Ambrosius, Dr.Dre, & Kendrick Lamar.
Candice is one of the rare talents that has the dual ability to write great music for herself, as well as release hit tunes in the veins of her superstar colleagues . With credits such as Rita Ora, Sevyn Streeter, Tinie Tempah, Christina Aguilera, Rihanna, & Tinie Tempah under her belt, the pen game has always been nasty with this one! I’ve always liked Candice’s personal sound as an artist, because of it’s otherwordly, futuristic, & supernatural type of aura to it. She is pleasing to the ear while still sonically pushing the boundaries of sound, & creativity in her musical releases.
